TYLER, TX – A 35 year old Mississippi man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.

Roderick McGee, of Water Valley, Mississippi, pleaded guilty on May 31, 2012, to possession with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana.  McGee was sentenced to 30 months in prison today during a hearing before United States District Judge Michael H. Schneider.

            According to information presented in court, McGee assisted his co-defendant, James Woodard, in obtaining 1 kilogram of cocaine and 20 pounds of marijuana in the Dallas, Texas area.  McGee and Woodard traveled through Tyler, Texas for the purpose of delivering the drugs to others in Mississippi.  McGee also admitted that he was responsible for Woodard possessing a firearm during their drug trafficking activity.  The pair was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 15, 2011. 

            Woodard pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana on July 9, 2012 and is currently awaiting sentencing.

            This case was investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bill Baldwin.
